Located at Southampton General Hospital and working in partnership with the University of Southampton, we are dedicated to providing high quality, patient centred clinical research within a state-of-the-art clinical research facility and across hospital departments.

We currently have fantastic opportunities for dynamic and motivated adult nurses, who take pride and ownership in delivering high quality patient centred care to join our clinical research teams.

These roles will provide regular contact with patients and healthy volunteers and involve research that will make a real difference to future patient care. These exciting opportunities will cover a range of respiratory studies including asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis and idiopathic lung disease. We undertake drug trials, studies that look at different interventions, studies that help us understand how the body works, how genes or lifestyle choices affect health, and studies that help us more fully understand chronic diseases or acute infections. The well-being and safety of our research patients/ participants is at the heart of all we do as is our confidence that the data we provide is accurate and reproducible.

These are some of the things our research nurses like about this job (in their own words)

  • ‘working one-to-one with participants - being able to understand their condition and work together to improve their health and well-being’
  • ‘seeing treatments translate from research to practice’
  • ‘giving people hope’
  • ‘ I learn something new every day’
  • ‘being a research nurse gives me more time to spend with the patient and their families’
  • ‘working as part of a team and the support of my colleagues’
  • ‘having the time to give patients quality care and knowing that you are making a difference in their lives’
  • ‘opportunities to listen and learn from experts passionate about their subject â€" gives a real vision for the future’
  • ‘ I love it that patients love to come for their appointments with us’
  • ‘True partnership â€" working with pts to improve healthcare’
  • ‘As a new nurse to research I have enjoyed being part of a very dedicated and knowledgeable team who are always very supportive and aim to practice the highest standards of evidence based nursing. Their dedication to participants is very remarkable’
Following a robust induction and full research training you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, implementing studies to translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes.
