Reporting to the Head of Pets (a qualified and experienced veterinary practitioner), this vital role is based at the Support Office in Handforth, Cheshire. As the main point of contact to our stores, you’ll be responsible for providing advice and authorising necessary veterinary treatments for pets in our stores.

Responsibilities:

  • Acting as the main point of contact for stores and providing authorisation for vet treatments.
  • Liaising with our Group venture practices (Companion Care and Vets4Pets) and independent vets to discuss treatments and procedures; developing and! maintaining positive relationships.
  • Monitoring vet b! ills, and identifying cost trends so that we can identify any issues â€" maintaining “We put Pets before Profit” as our No.1 value at all times.
  • Analysing vet bills on a monthly basis.
  • Maintaining our veterinary practice database.
  • Liaising with Companion Care & Vets4Pets Operations Managers over any complaints or issues.
  • Attending meetings throughout the UK with colleagues from Companion Care and Vets4Pets to discuss any issues as required- this will include the occasional overnight stay or long drive.
  • Complete an annual review of our “Preferred treatment protocols” with the Head of Pets, her assistant and our Exotic Consultant.
  • Keep up to date with new treatments and protocols by attending relevant CPD and the BSAVA Trade Exhibition.
  • Annual review of our “Working together document” with CC & V4P and the Head of Pets
  • Overseeing the “vet change” process when stores have vet changes.

  • Where possible, attend stores with new veterinary practices; meeting with colleagues; explaining how the partnerships will work and building great relationships.
  • Help to complete annual relicensing forms.
Skills Required:
  • A passion for pets and to put their care first is essential to this role!
  • You must be a Fully-Qualified Veterinary Nurse and have extensive experience of recently working as a Veterinary Nurse in a Small animal practice
  • You need to have a high level of knowledge on small mammal knowledge including; husbandry; nutrition; diseases; and current treatments. Interest in rabbits/guinea pigs would be of benefit, as would experience of working with as well as an interest in reptiles.
  • You must have a full and clean UK drivers’ licence and be willing to drive long distances with the occasional overnight stay.
  • You must be computer literate including MC Word and preferably Excel + other ! databases.
  • You need excellent oral & written communication ski! lls and being able to communicate over the phone is particularly important. You need to be able to communicate clearly and convincingly to colleagues at all levels and to people outside of the organisation.
  • Someone with a high level of initiative and drive and with good time management skills is essential to ensure projects are delivered on time.
  • You need to be a people, friendly and out-going person as the ability to develop positive relationships with our stores and vets is essential to resolving challenging situations and striving for excellence.
