PART-TIME STAFF NURSE

Background
Eton College was founded by King Henry VI in 1440 for 70 King’s Scholars. In addition to the King’s Scholars housed in ‘College’, there are now 1,240 ‘Oppidan’ boys at the school in 24 other boarding houses.
There are 155 full time academic staff and 600 other permanent staff including domestic staff (in the boarding houses and in the central dining hall), technicians, grounds-men, administrative staff, security, cleaners and a large buildings de partment. There are also 100 part-time teachers, including visiting music teachers. The school and its immediate grounds and playing fields extend over 400 acres from the north end of Eton High Street to the M4 by Slough, bounded to the east by the Thames and to the west by a railway. There are some 400 school buildings, including staff accommodation and a 2,000m rowing lake at Dorney.

Health Care at Eton College

The Health Centre team provide health care for the 1300 pupils at Eton College. The Senior Nurse Manager leads a team of nurses, a secretary, part-time kitchen staff and part-time cleaners. The Health centre provides 24 hour in-patient care for up to 14 cases. In addition, there are a variety of clinics throughout the day including but not limited to, Asthma, Immunisations both routine and travel, Wound care and Wellbeing. Daily morning surgeries are run with the School Doctors. Throughout the day, Nurses will be dealing with any minor injury or illness that presents. A 24 hour triage service is provided for the school community.

The Health Centre team work closely with the School Doctors and other Health Professionals. There is a Physiotherapy suite on site with three Physiotherapists working weekdays. The Stephenson Centre for wellbeing is on the school site and is available for pupils with a part-time School Psychiatrist, two School Psychologists and a School Counsellor. There is a dedicated Paramedic team on match days in the Michaelmas Half.

Job Title: Staff Nurse

Department: Health Centre

Main Purpose of Job:

To provide Nursing care to boys and first aid to staff, basic assessment of minor illness and injury, monitor long-term conditions, take part in a variety of health care topics, coordinate medical information and vaccinations for school tours and expeditions, keep records of patient consultations and drug administration and provide routi ne and travel immunisation. Run clinics for asthma, wound care, medicals, immunisations and wellbeing.

Nurses also keep all medical records up to date with a strong attention to detail. Provide support to school staff around medical and health issues of boys. Be involved in health promotion and health education of a variety of topics.

Salary

Salary will be based on Agenda for Change and according to experience.

The appointment is part time for an average of 18 weekly hours during term time plus days at the beginning and end of each term. Details will be discussed at interview. As this position may require you to be available on call, the College will provide you with suitable living accommodation during the on call hours. The rota will be agreed with the Senior Nurse Manager.

Holiday

Four weeks’ paid statutory holiday per annum, plus Bank Holidays which are also paid. When a Bank Holiday falls during a Scho ol term there is a requirement to work on that day which is already included in the salary. You are required to take your paid holidays (including any additional days in lieu) during the school holidays, excluding the three days before the start and end of term.
