An exciting opportunity has arisen within molecular pathology at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a suitably qualified and experienced Clinical Scientist to join our team. Currently our department is part of the Wessex GMC which is one of 13 centres across the UK.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated scientist with extensive experience and knowledge in molecular diagnostics to contribute to the provision of the molecular pathology service. The successful candidate will take part in all aspects of the molecular diagnostics service and will also support the 100,000 genome project including the interpretation, verification and validation of NGS data primarily in solid cancer and haematology. They will also support developments in personalised medicine including the transfer of assays to NGS, active engagement in MDT’s and opportunities for the deployment of research developments. Good communication, interpersonal skills and a committed team member are essential. The clinical service provides a comprehensive range of investigations for haematological disease (including the Regional BMT service), MRD, disease associations (including pharmacogenomics), lymphoma and solid tumours. The laboratory is part of a European network for Molecular diagnostics QC, including NGS innovations in lymphoid clonality analysis. The laboratory works closely with both Cellular Pathology and Haematology services to enable the future provision of molecular diagnostics within the context of the national network of molecular cancer providers.

Further career development is encouraged. The laboratory supports the training of a variety of STP programmes, the HSST in molecular pathology of acquired disease and the training of healthcare professionals in haematology, immunology, biochemistry, fertility and histopathology

Candidates should be HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist, have or be working towards FRCPath Part 1 and have with relevant experience.
