Consultant in Emergency Medicine

Description: HCL Healthcare is hiring Consultant in Emergency Medicine right now, this job will be placed in England. More details about this job opportunity please read the description below. HCL is looking for emergency medicine consultants to work in a large acute hospital in bedfordshire.

The successful candidate must have MRCP, FRCS, FFARCS or FCEM

The successful candidate must have G! MC registration or be eligible for GMC registration

The Consultants will provide a comprehensive senior cover to the Department. With the addition of a 5th Consultant, the Consultants will be expected to review all potential admissions and act as the gatekeepers for admission into the Sub-acute ward.

The Department saw an excess of 65,000 patients in 2010/11. The consultants in the department will work in a one in five senior consultant rota with mutual prospective cover.

The Department was refurbished in 1997 and consists of dedicated minor and major cubicles. In addition there is a fully equipped resuscitation room consisting of four bays.

The Department has a six-bedded observation ward and patients with minor to moderate head injuries and those who require short periods of observation are admitted under the care of the Emergency Medicine Consultant. The management of head injured patients is managed directly by the Emergency Medicine ! Department with assistance from the Critical Care Unit consult! ants. The successful applicants will share the workload of providing senior cover for the day-to-day management of the observation ward.

Fixed sessions are allocated for week and weekend “shop floor” work to support the junior medical and nursing staff and these will be included in the Job Plan.

The successful appointees will be provided with secretarial support and office accommodation.

The Department has a minor procedures room, a dedicated children’s treatment and waiting area and eye/ENT room with slit lamp. The Department has its own x-ray facilities available 24 hours a day.

The Department follows NICE guidelines for the management of head injuries including the criteria for CT scanning, which is available 24 hours a day.
