The Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery - a constituent School of King's College London - traces its history back to the world's first professional nurse training school, which was established by Florence Nightingale at St Thomas' Hospital in 1860. The School was created in its current form in 1999 through the merger of the UK's premier nursing research department and the Nightingale Institute. Today the School is one of the UK's longest standing providers of pre-registration education within the fields of nursing & midwifery.

An outstanding candidate is now sought for the position of Associate Dean (Education). The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the implementation of the School of Nursing & Midwifery's education strategy; ensuring excellent academic and clinical education for nurses and midwives which meets the requirements of education commissioners, NHS Trust partners, and professional bodies. The successful applicant will ensure that the School makes a significant contribution to the healthcare workforce in London, ensuring the provision of excellent, evidenced-based and compassionate care to patients. The successful appointee will also build alliances and research collaborations within the broader context of King's Health Partners, in addition to external partners both nationally and internationally.

As a member of the School leadership team, the successful applicant shares collective responsibility for ensuring the School achieves its aims, meets its objectives and attains its targets in all aspects of its work. Duties associated with the Deanship will account for 60% of the post holder's time, with the remaining 40% devoted to their own teaching and research activities. This will be a permanent appointment however the Deanship element will be subject to review after three years.

The position is based at the King's College Waterloo Campus in London, with some travel between campuses. Anticipated salary is within the senior professorial range. Applicants must hold a PhD with a depth of expertise in the nursing, or education and professional development fields with a good track record of academic publications and successful applications for research funds/ grants. Ideally the successful applicant will be a qualified nurse or midwife who is active on the Nursing & Midwifery Council register.
