We are seeking an enthusiastic Pre-Admission Nurse to work along side the existing staff in the department. Working towards optimisation of patient?s health prior to their admission to hospital for surgery through pre-assessment of elective cases.

Duties of the post ? Liaise with the admissions team in respect of patients booked for surgery. ? take relevant action. ? Review pre-assessment questionnaires; performing or organising any investigations required. ? Collect and review results of investigation and obtain medical advice with regard to significant abnormalities. ? Liaise with the pharmacist relating to patients medication to source further information if necessary; give pre-operative advice on medications including fasting times. ? Case-manage each individual patient and take responsibility for all clinical information throughout their pre-operative journey. ? Liaise with consultants secretaries. ? Commence any planning for the peri-operative period and take measures to ensure timely discharge. ? Communicate any special requirements and essential resources to the operating theatre manager and to wards staff e.g. latex allergy, heavy patient. ? Collate all information prior to surgery and ensure that the multidisciplinary documentation is available to ward staff.

Person requirements ? Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration (not requiring a period of Supervised Placement) ? Permission to undertake employment in the UK (not requiring ?work-permit? sponsorship) ? At least 3 years post registration surgical experience ? Organisational skills ? Excellent communications skills; able to liaise with departments, consultants & secretaries ? Basic IT skills ? Neat handwriting
